Is your BI Software also failing to deliver?

Gartner (regarded as the leading research and advisory company) announced in 2011 that between 70% to 80% of Business Intelligence projects failed to deliver, 8 years on and little appears to have changed.

In 2015 Gartner stated that: BI leaders are unable to deliver the benefits businesses expect from continued BI and analytics investment, causing users to disengage from the corporate BI initiative.

In 2017 TDWI (business and technical education and research) published a study where the top 2 reasons for Business Intelligence failure were:

Project objectives and scope are not well-defined

Many organizations have invested in data analytics technologies without clarifying how they are going to use them.

We do not have enough skilled personnel

“We have a larger number of reports, analytics and users to support, but the resources and procedures in our organisation remain unchanged," one participant said.

In June 2019 Gartner analyst Hank Barnes shared some research on “high quality deals” (high quality is where value was meeting or exceeding expectation) where these organisations were much more likely to engage with independent sources after they had engaged with the Vendor. This was reportedly to help validate assumptions, discover blind spots and expand their thinking.

Generating value for any business should go far beyond the delivery of reports or analyses. If scope/strategy are not defined and falling user engagement is a knock on effect, how are you tackling the issues? If up to 70% of projects are failing to deliver, an independent perspective could well help you buck the trend.

With 20 years experience, a Vantagesoft BI healthcheck on your company might shine some light in some dimly lit corners. You may then become one of the “high quality deals”.
